This map taken from the Wildlife Magazine, edited by the
Argentine Wildlife Foundation, shows the distribution of the different types of vegetation in the high basin of the Bermejo River, the most important area at the Yungas Forest, in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy, on the northwest of Argentina.
These are the Pedemontana Rainforest, the Montana Rainforest, the Montana Forest and the high or mist Grass.
Also are shown the locations of the most important Protected Areas, the National Parks of Calilegua (Jujuy) and Baritu (Salta) in Argentina, and the Tariquia Reserve in Bolivia. Precisely inside these three
conservation units the especialists want to create a biologic corridor with practise in the sustainable utilization of nature.
Marked by a black line can be observed on the south and northwest of Baritu the areas that
become protected, to compensate the ecological impact caused by the construction of the Norandino
pipeline (there was already a fire that lasted three hours under rain).
These are the areas of San Jose of Guayco Grande and Pedregal (on the north) and Denuncia Saravia (on the
south). The first one is El Nogalar National Reserve. In the last one can be found the recently declared Laguna Pintascayo
Provincial Reserve, where is the lake with the same name, probably the biggest and better conserved in the Yungas, with populations of Yaguarete
(or Jaguar, Panthera onca), Yacare Ñato (or Caiman, Caiman
latirostris), and Carpincho (or Capybara, Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris).
