Before passing over the Sub-andean and Oriental Mountains, the winds coming from the Atlantic Ocean unload their humidity in the form of rains and mist, shaping one of the richest environments for life in Argentina.
These are the Mountain Forests, the Forest of Yungas, an extension of the amazonian habitat unthinkable in the desertic geography at northwest, a forest area almost unknown -unbelivably- by most of the argentinians.
This is one of the last shelters in Argentina for the Jaguar or Yaguarete, together with the
Rainforest of Misiones and a portion of the dry Chaco.
From the impenetrable Baritu at north to the southwest extreme in Jujuy, passing by Pintascayo, a large zone of Oran, Calilegua, Sierras de Zapla, Acambuco and Sierras de
Aguaragüe, the areas where his presence is more frequent.
But data exists about his presence in areas so far as Campo Duran in the north, Tineo in the east, surrounding the National Park El Rey, and even in the area of Metan in the south, near Tucuman (in chaco formations
ambients), although with populations almost unknown and apparently with just a bit of hope for survival.
The situation at the east of Salta is unknown, on the border with Chaco and Formosa,
we don't kno if there is some kind of contact between the populations of Yungas and the dry Chaco.
What is certain is that the Overo, as it is called in these areas, is still walking on the argentine northwest, avoiding men, their bullets and their deforestation, stealing some veals that sooner or later is paid with his life.
It was just approved by UNESCO the brand new Yungas Biosphere Reserve between the National Parks of Baritu and Calilegua, which is protecting the better conserved
area and where it would be promoted the sustentable development of natural
resources.
