Great Tigrero's Victory:

$34,000 in sanction

October 2010

We increase the achievements and the amount of penalty for illegal actions against the Jaguars:

In April 2007, the Jaguar Network detected a jaguar skin for sale at the Antique trade Gabriel del Campo, in the San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires. We made the complaint to the National Wildlife Department, whose staff, with support from the Environmental Crimes Division of the Federal Police conducted the raid and abduction of the piece. Just over three years later, the fine became effective, the first of its kind in the City of Buenos Aires and the higher in Argentina: $ 34,000 (about 8,600 US Dollars).

Our congratulations to the organizations who have contributed in an exemplary manner and to the court that did not drop the case and fell short of the circumstances. We want to highlight the work of the UFIMA, this national government agency has taken the lead in terms of complaints and judicial monitoring, with whom we are working closely to end the hunting and sale of parts of jaguars.

This penalty is for the administrative sanction, dated September 23, 2010, at the request of the Jaguar network, the UFIMA made the criminal complaint, resulting drawn on the National Criminal Court and Corrections No. 10, Secretariat No. 20 Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.

Not a jaguar over hunted or sold in Argentina!

After nearly two years

and there is a Sentence!

March 2009

After a series of complex and bureaucratic Arrangements at the Department of Environmental Regulation, finally had a conviction for the infringement name Florencia Cruz Aleman, in charge of trade involved in the sale of skin of endangered species, declared a National Natural Monument and included in Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora).

The offending appealed the ruling and the case is now come before the Federal Administrative Board No. I of the City of Buenos Aires, where we follow closely the developments of the case, with the hope of confirming the decision of conviction.

"It'sa great joy, we had to make over 35 visits to various departments of the Secretary of Environment, especially the Department of Environmental Regulation. More than 50 phone calls trying to find where the file was, well, this is the way this things work, do not surrender, because our Jaguars are fighting in every corner of the forests, and we do so. Now we go for a sentence and the rest of the demands we have made. "said Dr. Antonio Fortunato Mancuso, legal representative of the Jaguar Network.

Almost two years later, we continue and press to get to the conviction of this trafficker and extermination of the majestic jaguar, not more. We will not stop until the reconfirmation of the sentence and applied a fine up to the penalty incurred.

The National Fauna Direction confiscated a Jaguar skin in Buenos Aires

April 13, 2007

Personal of Control from the Wildlife Division of the Secretary  of Environment and Sustainable Development, in conjunction with Personnel of the Operations Department from the  Environmental Crimes Division of the Federal Police, performed a procedure in a shop in the neighborhood of San Telmo Antique named Gabriel del Campo, where they confistaced a Jaguar skin and a bracelet with remnants of leather made of the same species.

The National Wildlife Division received a complaint from the Jaguar Network which reported the offer of sale.

The jaguar is protected in all the provinces where it occurs (Salta, Jujuy, Formosa, Chaco, Misiones and Santiago del Estero), and likewise to the national level (Law No. 22.421/81, Regulatory Decree 666/97, Resolution 1089 / 98) and listed ENDANGERED Nationwide under Resolution 1030-1004. Also been declared a National Natural Monument (Law No. 25,463)

This protection is because natural populations are in serious decline due to destruction and modification of their natural habitats and illegal poaching.

It is also important to note that internationally the Jaguar is included in Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora).

The pieces are in defense of the National Department of Wildlife and administrative actions have been initiated.

"We want to highlight the work of the National Department of Wildlife and Environmental Crime Department of the Federal Police. In the struggle to save our Jaguars from extinction we need the commitment and action of all agencies and people involved. We now expect an exemplary punishment for this unscrupulous 'merchant', law must be applied thoroughly. We will not allow anyone to continue killing jaguars or selling their skins just like that. The National Parks Administration (responsible for natural monuments such as the Jaguar) is still acknowledge receipt of the conclusion in the National Workshop of 2006 (organized by this institution) with the maximun Jaguar specialists agree that there is no more time for the species and request the designation of a RESPONSIBLE with FULL TIME DEDICATION for Jaguar, "said Dr. Antonio fortunato Mancuso, legal representative of the Jaguar Network.
