The Yaguareté or Jaguar (Panthera Onca) finds in our province of
Misiones one of the places with greater amount of protected areas, at least in the papers.
It is possible to be found in the cord of paranaense forest that crosses the province
from the north to the south, from Iguazú to Jardín América, either with diminished populations the more, happening through Andresito, Urugua-í, central mountain ranges, Yabotí and until
near Oberá, there are some information which mention it's still walking,
but this must be confirmed, here outside the zone of the Green
Runner.
It has been declared State Natural Monument (as
same as National), offering this way
an absolute protectionistic status, in the papers. The reality shows a very different face.
The great surface of the Misiones forest that still exists, although is a minimum percentage of the
original extension, it continues being an area of difficult control and the protected areas are object of furtive hunting
and violations of diferent types.
But without doubts the main difficulty is in the continuous clearing of the native forest, that takes to collisions of the Yaguareté with the man, with the often tragic consequence for the
big cat.
The clearing is carried out by lumber companies popularly, cattle in search of pastures for the cattle
and by the increasing number of people (whole families) denominated " intruders ", a
similar problem to the brazilian and Paraguayan "without earth", in fact many of these families come from Brazil.
This is a very complex problem, since these people are very poor and deprived,
they
take possession from fiscal lands causing a great destruction but hardly
obtaining for their sustenance, failing to take advantage of all the great possibilities that the region could offer
to all its inhabitants. Its one of the main aspects to solve if it is wanted that the ambitious project of the Green Runner fulfills its spirit.
