Advances in the cause
October 2011
The person who seized a jaguar skin in Formosa Airport in January
2010, already has a current Administrative Summary (for which the
financial penalty will be applied) and the National Wildlife
Directory has filed a criminal complaint in the Federal Court No.
2 of Formosa, where we expect a penalty, which would be the first
in Argentina.
We will be alert, since the federal courts in this
area of the country has a sad history of having vacated another
hunter, because of this, we have initiated action against fiscal
responsibility (but at federal court No. 1). We hope the
experience will contribute to grow and in this case, we could have
exemplary sanctions, as is established by legislation and the
current jaguar situation requires it.

se abrirá una causa penal. |
Personnel from the Airport Security Police "The
Puku" airport of Formosa city seized a Jaguar skin
that was carried by a person of chinese descent
and citizenship of Argentina.
The incident occurred during a routine check of
pre-boarding the flight No. AR 1781 of the company
Aerolineas Argentinas, the leather was detected by
X-ray machine, so that the citizen was required to
open the purse.
After that, the staff of the Direction of
Registration, Supervision and Control of Ministry
of Production and Environment of the Province,
checked and found that the skin belongs to a
Jaguar (Panthera onca).
The accused was delayed and could not take the
flight, but later the federal judge ordered his
release. This person would own a restaurant in the
city of Mar del Plata, where he planned to hang
the skin of one of our latest Chaco Tigers as an "ornament".
With this infringement, the laws is
25,463
(Jaguar National Natural Monument)
22,421
(National Law of WildlifeConservation) and
22,351
(National Parks of Argentina), in addition to
provincial rules 1314 and 1067 were violated.
We want to highlight a very important fact in the
struggle to end and seriously punish trafficking
and illegal trade in jaguars:
the effective action of the Airport Police
personnel and the rapid involvement of the Audit
Staff from the Natural Resources, Land Use and
Environmental Quality Secretary of the Province.
Teamwork is the key to achieving successful
actions as was here demonstrated.
Now we need the judiciary to act once and for all
to rise to the occasion, something that has not
been done in our country in these cases.
Elementary and fundamental is that after an
excellent action like this, there is active
monitoring of the case.
The Red Yaguareté is already working with the
Secretariat of Natural Resources in the province
of Formosa to do so and hope that the National
State agencies (the National Wildlife Direction
and National Parks Administration) do the same.
The sad fact of finding more dead jaguars, can be
transformed (working together and with
determination) to achieve a great opportunity to
stop this from happening on our lands.

poaching of our latest American Tigers, JOIN NOW!
